Stairs are often the first visual greeting visitors experience upon entering your home. We're sharing our TDS perspective on memorable stairs. These stairs will draw the eye upward to the more intimate environments. Your staircase can be an intriguing and impactful design element throughout the interior of your home.
2018 Interior updates can start with your steps! Say goodbye to bland! At The Design Source, we love to design unusual staircases. Below we have shared some of our recent designs.
For those of you that love HGTV as much as we do, we're sharing with you the
A favorite carpet pattern for staircases in 2018 is the Antelope stair runner. Yes, Antelope! We specified Blue Antilocarpa carpeting from Stark Carpet for one of our recent projects. The Antelope pattern creates visual interest while maintaining a sophisticated look.

Once we've ordered your perfect carpeting, we will discuss the best installation options with you. Does Hollywood or Waterfall make more sense? What's the difference? The Hollywood installation method originated on Hollywood movie sets and involves wrapping the edge of the treat and contouring the nosing to meet the riser. The runner then gets stapled under the nose of the stair, providing a more tailored looking, making it easier for the actors to navigate on set!
A Waterfall installation brings the carpet over the edge of the treat and meets the next treat without fastening it to the riser. This creates a waterfall effect and tends to be more of a glamorous, clean-lined installation than the Hollywood install. This install is more appropriate for thicker carpets that can be harder to rap around the edge of the tread.
When it comes to staircases, run away from boring runners! With our creativity at play, you aren't tied to just a carpet runner. The stairs below were hand-painted for one of our client's by our good friend, Sue Greene of Paint Imagery.
We absolutely love to experiment with unusual materials. Attaching JUMBO nail heads to these stair risers below creates a one-of-a-kind, sophisticated look.
Here is an example of using nail heads to order your stair runner. So creative and such a fun look.
No more hesitation, it's time to give your stairs a well-deserved "new beginning." We would love the opportunity to design a staircase for you worth "stairing" at!
